The Self Monitor Usage Patterns are part of the extended use stage of the customer experience.
Use these patterns to support your customers in monitoring wether they actually use a product.
The first Self Monitor Usage Pattern invites the customer to check wether he could resell 5 products. He is triggered by the financial incentive behind this and goes for the check.
If he does not use a product at all, the next activity is reselling. If he uses it once a month, both reselling and keeping it is an option. Also, with a little mix and match, he might use it even more often. If he uses it once a week, he certainly keeps it and proceeds to the next product.

We own a lot of products we do not use anymore, but weeding them out takes time and is annoying.

Weeding out unused products while they still are in good condition and returning them to the cycle for reuse is the best way to preserve their value.
